This particular B-29 made a special visit to the Commemorative Air Force's Heart of America Wing at New Century Air Center on June 15, 2024. Enthusiasts and spectators gathered to witness this marvel of engineering and history. This B-29, one of only two still flying today, has a remarkable restoration story. It was discovered in the Mojave Desert in the 1980s, where it had been left as a target for the U.S. Navy. The restoration began in 1998 and spanned over 15 years, involving countless hours of meticulous work by dedicated volunteers.
The restoration team faced numerous challenges, including sourcing original parts and ensuring the aircraft met modern safety standards while retaining its historical integrity. Their efforts culminated in the B-29's first flight in July 2016, marking a significant milestone in aviation history. This aircraft now serves as a flying museum, educating and inspiring new generations about the incredible legacy of the B-29 Superfortress.
